Inheriting Craft supplies

2012 started out like it always does for me just another day on the calendar just a new year with new beginnings and changes. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that this would be the year my mom would cross that rainbow bridge. Mom passed in Jan....2 wks after her 85th birthday.

Since that time I have been back to my old childhood home to clean out my parents place. (Daddy wants to sell the house so he can close this chapter of his life and start a new one.) Mom was big into crafting mostly crocheting and knitting. I learned from her when I was young how to crochet but never to knit. She even turned one of our old bedrooms into a computer/craft room where she kept all her supplies. 

In packing up the supplies there were 3 - 3ft tall packing boxes full of goodies. 2 - blanket bags full of more goodies and countless tins and smaller boxes of supplies as well. As I go through all of these boxes to reorganize, see what is what and all I also find myself going through lots of memories. Memories that make me miss my mom....wishing she was still here.

In order to keep her memories alive I will finish up her unfinished projects and start new ones with the supplies that she left behind.

I love you mom.....I miss you terribly.....You will never be forgotten.

Kitchen Pants (Britches) Dishcloths

Makes a great shower gift.
Designer: Unknown - An old pattern my mother had
Rating: Easy

Materials: Cotton worsted weight yarn, small amout of ribbon in a matching color, 5.00m crochet hook (am.H/8)

Directions: Chain 28.
Row 1: DC in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across foundation. (27 dc)Row 2: * Ch 3 (for first dc), turn, dc in each dc* across.
Row 3 - 14: Repeat from * to * and finish off.

Assembly: When both cloths are made and ends tied in, fold each in half and thread ribbon through second last row, pull the ribbon till the cloth looks like the ruffle on bloomers and tie in a bow . This is the first leg. Repeat with second cloth. Next, thread the ribbon through second row from top, starting with the front and going all the way around joining both cloths. (Cloths will join at center front and center back). Gather this ribbon until it is about the right size to be the waist, tie another bow. Lastly, about the 6th row from the top add one more ribbon to make the fly. (The ribbon goes through only 4 sts. first and last on each leg), tie 4th bow here.

Add this poem and you have yourself a great wedding shower gift or a cute kitchen decoration.

County Fair Entries

Can not believe that a year has passed since I was first talked into entering some of my crafts into our local county fair. Soon it will be that time again so here I go through all the crafts to see which will be good enough to enter into the fair. Last year I had 12 entries so this year I need to enter at least 12 items if not more I keep telling myself. Still unsure of myself when it comes to my crafts..... but by entering in the fair it helps boost my ego a tad when I place and hear the comments of others of the items made.

Time has flown by....

I can not believe how much time has gone by since my last posting. Life sure has a funny way of keeping us busy at times. I know that alot of changes has happened to me in the past 3 yrs as it is. Things have changed some for the good....some for the.....well.....not so sure. I have started back to my crafting thanks to the support of one special man in my life.....David. He even convinced me that my crafts was good enough to enter into the County fair. With him holding my hand I finally agreed and entered 12 items. Scared to see what the results were I am still in awe over them. Out of 12 items entered I won 7 blue ribbons and 5 red ribbons. One of the Blues even won Best of Show. Best of Show and one other item them moved to District fair. Results from that was the Best of Show won Red Ribbon and one of the Blue ribbon items that went as well won a white ribbon. With one fair left to go....the state fair....my county winner Best of Show moved onto it. It won 2nd place in State. So yeah I do feel a tad better abt my crafting. Now planning to try for more next year.

Currently I have been working on bead jewelry and just finished up with a crochet hat that a friend ordered. I am in hopes to post more with photos as time goes on.

WIP

Now that I got your attention...LOL....I will tell you what WIP means. WIP is short for Works in Progress. When I first saw that in one of my crochet groups I was like HUNH....Till someone explained it to me. Since I am not big on blogging I thought I would drop in today and just give an update on WIPs that I am working on. (Yeah I know I have more going on than I should) I have 15 crochet cross bookmarks almost done for an order that I have. I still need to weave in the tails then starch and put the tassels on the. I also have 6 elephant fridgies that I need to weave the tails in then glue some eyes and magnet on them to finish them off. I started 2 days ago another round ripple babyghan that I THOUGHT I had done last nite till I went to do the edging. In doing the edging I came to a spot that the count was off...yep you guessed it...dumb me dropped a stitch in one of the corners. What made me more mad at myself about it is I didn't catch it sooner since the drop stitch was back at the halfway mark of the afghan that I was working on. So now it sits waiting on me to come work on it and get it done.

I got in the mail the past few days ebay orders that I had bidding on for doll faces. I now have more than enough of the faces to make plenty of the doll face potholders to sell and give away as gifts. I even have some dark ones that I am in hopes to work up as Indian doll face potholders.

Well I better get off here if I plan on getting some crochet done before kids get home from school. I have not firgured out yet how to type and crochet at same time yet.

Angel in My Pocket

While out looking for crochet patterns I came across this Tiny Angle pattern at http://www.orble.com/free-tiny-angel-crochet-pattern/ Now I am not one that likes to weave in alot of ends so I got to thinking there has to be an easier way to making these tiny angels

Ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join w sl st in 1st sc (8 sc). This forms the Head

Ch 2, hdc, ch 2, hdc, che, sl st in same sc This forms 1st wing:

Sl st in next, ch 4, 3 trc, ch 4, sl st in same sc, This forms the dress.

Sl st in next sc, rep as for 1st wing. This forms the 2nd Wing

Weave in ends. Lightly starch.

They also reminded me of a poem I once heard about the Angel in My Pocket. I found online this poem and printed it out so that with each angel I make a poem will go with it.

Pineapple Trivit/Dishcloth

This was so simple to work up. I did have 2 spots that I did different from the way it was worded in the pattern so that the end results would allow my finished project to look like hers.

In the pattern Michele has it as Rnd 1 - ch3 counts as 1st dc now and throughout. (2dc, ch2) 5times....here I did the Ch 3, Dc 2 (2dc, ch2) 4times. This was so there was not an extra dc in the beginning round. The next part was where she has in Row 6 - side shell, ch2, sc in ch sp, (ch3, sc in ch1sp) across, ch2, shell in shell [8 ch3sps]..... I feel it should read Row 6 - side shell, ch2, sk first sc sp, sc in ch sp, (ch3, sc in ch1sp) across, ch2, shell in shell [8 ch3sps] By doing that then you would have the correct amout in the [ ] Once I did that this baby worked up real quick and easy. I know I will be making more.

4 Square Preemie Afghan

This is my verison of Patti Stone's Preemie Afghan. http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/4squareafghan.html I did this as a CAL with CFWP events group. I have learned one one thing in this...you don't use baby sport yarn if you want the pattern to work out right. I love how the pattern worked up but from now on I will use a softer baby yarn to make it.

Crochet Thread & Doll faces

Got part of my buying spree in today for the CALs that I have signed up with. Thanks to Wal Mart not having a wide selection of crochet tread I went shopping at Jo Ann's online. Got lucky on the shipping for it as well.

Finished Crochet Projects

Theses are some of the goodies I have been working in this past week

This is a Valentine Crinoline Doily that was a CAL in CFWP events group. I still need to finish weaving the ends, lightly starching and then gluing the parts together.

This Angel with Heart Filet came about thanks to Yvette bragging how easy it was to do and that it only took her two days. Well she was right it was easy even though I screwed up and dropped a stitch and didn't find it till I was to the halfway mark and things was looking really odd. This was a free pattern online and can be found at http://members.tripod.com/~lhamm/angel-h.htm

There is only one correction to this I would like to add. At the end of each row before turning chain 3 (some only chains 2) This is the first DC for that row. Work the rest of the pattern as done so in the site.

This was a Scrubbie CAL I got myself into. I tell you I never in my wildest dreams expected a simple pattern to give me such a fit as this one did. My one big mistake was not reading the instruction completely FIRST. PLEASE NOTE this pattern is done in the back loops so to give it the ridge effect needed to make this pattern work out right. This was also a free pattern and can be found at the blog of GRANNYJUDITH http://crochetpatternsonly.blogspot.com/2005_05_16_crochetpatternsonly_archive.html
I found that naztazia posted step by step photo instructions of Granny Judith's pattern. http://www.acmoore.com/forum/yaf_postst1616p2_Spiral-Scrubbies--pics-included.aspx This was what help me to discover my big OOps.


Now this was a fun CAL. For 3 weeks it was called the Mystery CAL. Can you tell what it is? With the parts I couldn't either but in the end after it was all put together it created this wonderful Starburst Hot Pad. (Don't you just love the colors?)

Still have a few other projects I am working on but that is for another day.

Gone Goose Hunting

Well not really hunting goose, just patterns to make lawn ornament goose clothes. A friend of mine has a lawn ornament Goose that would like for me to make some clothes for her. Annies Attic at one time had a pamplet called "Annie's Attic Goose and Gander Parade Crochet" but now it is out of stock or can not be found *boo hoo* I can't even find some reasonaly prices use sewing patterns for some outfits. So if anyone out here can help me in with this new project of mine I would be so eternally grateful.

Recycling

Today I had some time to kill before a meeting so I stopped off at our local Thrift store. Was just looking to see what goodies they may have that I could use for crafting. Found a relish tray that looks like it could come from Tupperware or rubbermade but was from Pioneer instead, and then idea hit me...HEY this would work for a sewing caddy. It has 4 latches on it that even if you didnt have them all clicked down it would still keep the lid on good to keep things from falling out. So now I have all my straight pins, bobbins, hook & eyes, and elastic in it.

Crochet Cross Bookmark Pattern

Some time ago I found this cross bookmark pattern online (yes it was free I think) but now when I went to find it again so I could share it It was nowhere to be found. As for me saving a copy of it....well that got lost when my pc crashed. I have since taken the time to write it out as I crochet one so that I may share it with others. IF someone finds that this pattern is indeed not a free pattern or is copywritten please let me know and I will take it down.

Instructions
Ch 5 sl st to form ring
